THE POND ECOSYSTEM
How It Works
Taking cues from nature, we design our ponds to be self-managing ecosystems using the tried-and-trued Aquascape methodology (a system that’s been tested for over 30 years). These well-balanced ecosystems create clean and clear water — all while being very low maintenance – so our clients can enjoy their backyards without worrying about the upkeep.

OXYGEN
Every pond we create has a stream or waterfall spilling into it. This component introduces moving water, which increases air molecules throughout the feature to help break down nitrogenous waste and keep the feature well circulated.
PLANT LIFE
From water lilies to marginal grasses, aquatic plants do more than just look pretty. They serve as one of the primary filters in the pond and also produce additional oxygen for the pond.
FISH
Fish also play a symbiotic role in a pond. Grazing on algae and other microbial life, they help keep the rocks polished and the ecosystem in check.
BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION
Dedicated filters promote healthy bacterial growth, which keep the pond naturally clean and clear without the need for chemicals.
MECHANICAL FILTRATION
Skimmers and jets remove harmful debris before otherwise sinking to the bottom of the pond where they would decompose and increase the nutrient load.
ADDED BENEFITS
More than Meets the Eye
Having a pond comes with a host of secondary benefits too.
Water Conservation
Contrary to popular belief, a well-built pond actually saves water. Compared to lawns + traditional gardens, ponds require little-to-no irrigation & will create a more sustainable landscape.
Lower Landscape Maintenance
By replacing a section of lawn with a pond, you won’t have to mow as much grass or weed, which reduces the overall amount of work in your yard.
Wildlife Contributions
A pond provides sustenance for so many living things. From birds and pollinators to frogs and dragonflies, your pond won’t just be your oasis.
