Bare Stone Pond

LINCOLN, MASSACHUSETTS

About the Project

Sometimes the best rocks are only a stone’s throw away. While clients often suggest using stones from their yards for a water feature, it’s rare that we actually do (opting instead to hand pick boulders from a larger source – like a farm or bulk materials yard). However, the large stones you see here all came from the property! This native rock not only created some awesome waterfalls and destination boulders around the pond, but also tied in seamlessly to the monolith of ledge behind the feature, which serves as the perfect backdrop for a stone-lover’s oasis.

This 10-foot by 14-foot ecosystem pond is complemented by a fish cave, natural wood pieces, moss, lights, and a 15-foot-long stream. It was also nationally recognized as a runner up for Pond Trade Magazine’s best rockwork award in 2022 – otherwise known as the Water Artisan of the Year Award for the ‘Rock Artisans’ category.
