About the Project
What started as an innocent pond cleaning led to one of the most rewarding re-builds we’ve been a part of it. After cleaning Susan’s rubber-lined pond in 2018, I offered to show her what a more natural water feature looks like. From there, we hopped in the car and headed down the road to Dover where I toured her through the “Country Manor Pond” (a feature we had re-designed and re-built a year earlier).

Susan immediately saw the difference and set me loose on revamping her water feature. We started by ripping out the old liner and re-excavating the entire footprint, which nearly doubled in size to a 40-foot-long by 15-foot-wide feature. Enlarging the pond stemmed from an idea to surround the patio with water, which creates a more intimate, enclosed feeling when people are back there.
It also ate into a pathway, which we resolved by building a mahogany bridge to keep the two spaces connected. Spilling into the pond on the other end is a 6-foot-high waterfall with several dramatic drops that occur over a 20-foot run. This feature is deeply connected with the house and creates a very immersive experience of nature from inside. To see that perspective, check out this walkthrough we did with Greg Wittstock, the Pond Guy for his YouTube channel.

IN SUSAN’S WORDS
“I like to say that my yard went from representing a swamp to Park Avenue. It’s the most relaxing setting you can imagine and I enjoy the beauty year round. I love it all, but the enhanced waterfall is truly the most spectacular day and night. This might be the best stress releaser anyone could ever have.”
